August 25, 2006Welcome back to Patapsco Middle School! I’m looking forward to a great year of teaching math with a new group of students!
Supplies
August 25, 2006Students will need a spiral notebook for classwork and homework.
Students will need a section in their looseleaf binder for handouts.
Students will need a pencil and eraser for taking notes and working problems.
Students will need graph paper for certain topics.
I have a class set of TI-83 Plus graphing calculators to use in class.
Notebook Organization
August 25, 2006We will be using the “interactive notebook.” Each day you will begin a fresh page in your notebook.
On the LEFT side you will write the date, copy the objective and homework, and complete the drill.
We will continue on the LEFT side with notes and vocabulary.
On the RIGHT side you will work any problems. This can be problems I present to you, problems from a worksheet, or problems from a textbook.
Wherever you leave off in class, you will continue in your notebook by doing your homework.
The next class period, you will begin on a fresh page on the LEFT side.
Math Levels
August 25, 2006All seventh grade students enrolled in Algebra are GT and are classified as “above grade level.”
All seventh grade students enrolled in Pre-Algebra are classified as “above grade level.”
All eighth grade students enrolled in Pre-Algebra are classified as “on grade level” unless they meet two of the four criteria below. Then they are classified as “below grade level.”
1) performing “Basic” on the 2006 MSA
2) earning below 70% as a quarter grade
3) earning below 70% on the quarterly county assessment
4) earning below 70% on the Form H diagnostic test
